Tuber Care

When Your Tubers Arrive

Your Flowerlove dahlia tubers have been carefully packed for their journey to you. Once they arrive, a little care will help keep them happy until planting time.

Unpack & check your tubers

Please unpack and inspect your tubers as soon as your order arrives.

Dahlia tubers are living things, so they will naturally vary in size and appearance. Some wrinkling or minor cosmetic marks are completely normal.

If you have any concerns about the condition of a tuber when it arrives, please contact us as soon as possible and include clear photos of the tuber and its packaging so we can help.

Please don’t discard any tubers you are concerned about until you’ve contacted us.

Dahlia tubers are living, perishable products and their condition can be affected by how they are stored and cared for after delivery. For this reason, we cannot take responsibility for deterioration caused by prolonged or unsuitable storage after your order has been received.

Storing before planting

If you’re not ready to plant straight away, store your tubers somewhere cool, dry and protected from frost. Keep them out of direct sunlight and away from excess moisture.

When to plant

Plant your dahlias once the risk of frost has passed and the soil has begun to warm.

Choose a sunny position with well-draining soil. Dahlias love sunshine and don’t like sitting in wet soil.

Planting

Plant your tuber horizontally with the eye or growing point facing upwards.

Cover with approximately 10–15 cm of soil and mark the spot so you know exactly where you’ve planted it.

Don’t water immediately after planting. Your tuber already contains the moisture it needs to get started. Too much water before shoots appear can encourage rot.

Once shoots emerge above the soil, begin watering as needed.

Then let the magic begin 🌸

As your dahlia grows, its needs will change throughout the season.
